Deep within the jungles blanketing Hashun's northeast shore lies a dense rainforest that seems as though it came from a dream. The days are full of the calls of hidden birds and the chirp of insects, but it is at night that the jungle truly comes alive and reveals its strangeness. Pale blossoms, closed during the day, open to give off a potent scent that induces a sense of giddiness on anyone who breaths it in. Much of the plant life is bioluminescent, and at night the entire forest is awash with blue-green glow. Rising upward to the western mountain slopes, the jungle transforms into cooler, misty cloud forest before giving way to alpine meadows.
Much of the lowland jungle lies over thick limestone deposits. This bedrock is naturally porous, swallowing up the rivers and waterfalls that flow from the mountains. In places this underground water rises to the surface in the form of cenotes, deep round pools that dot the landscape. Most settlements in Nightfell cluster around these pools. As well as a source of fresh water they are also a popular diving spot, and those who can hold their breath report that the pools open out into a network of underground caverns, carved out by the vanished rivers.
The Archetype of the Rainforest
Korih is one of the youngest of the Archetypes, born in the jungles of Tikikiarshu. The island continenent is close to Hashun, but her clan lived in the deep inland reaches and had never heard of the Archetypes. Although she grew up well loved, Korih was always aware of her differences, and was eager to go to Nightfell when Cecerin and Lana finally discovered her. That was only a few years ago, and Korih is still an adolescent. She speaks with a dreamy, detached, free associating air that leads many to think that Nightfell's flowers have had an effect on her, but she is more perceptive than she appears.
