Although Hashun does not reach far enough south to enter Ryll's antarctic circle, its southernmost peaks are cold enough to be comfortable for Polar kiarrcats. Many are snowcapped year around. It is here that you will find Wintermore, ancient seat of the Polar Archetypes. The path to Wintermore is a difficult climb, and the mountains are home to many dangerous creatures, including mountain mrrit. Persistent and well prepared travellers will find themselves in a complex landscape of snowy peaks and grand ice sculptures. Most are built from a particular form of deep blue, faintly translucent ice that is common in the mountain glaciers, and most are gigantic abstract forms, though animal shapes and elaborate dens and hiding places are not uncommon. When the sun shines upon them, they seem to glow with cold light. These sculptures are continually being shaped and built, the legacy of generation upon generation of Polar kiarr who have, over the eons, sculpted Wintermore into one of the most breathtaking sights on Ryll.
The Archetype of the Poles
Renna is one of the younger Archetypes, being a young adult of around thirty years. She was born into a family on the tundra banding the southern reaches of the Rahul Strip. They knew of the Archetypes from the many stories that reached them from travellers in the summer months, and sent word to Hashun when it became clear who she was. Renna is am ambitious kiarr with a thirst for adventure and justice, but her fiery-headedness has a tendency to get her into trouble more often than she can get out of it.
